About Holidays to Corfu

The island of Corfu, is perhaps the best known of the seven Ionian Islands that lie off the north-west coast of Greece.

Corfu is an island of contrasts; its scenery is a mixture of rough slopes and lush meadows ringed by the deep cobalt blue of the Ionian Sea. Staggered up the foothills of Mount Pandocrator in the north and the undulating landscape of the south, silver-leafed olive trees abundantly cover nature’s canvas and every so often, amid the sage and silver quivering of the ancient groves, tall, slender pines rise majestically.

The beaches on the Corfu periphery are varied too - wide expanses of golden sand, then tiny intimate coves followed by long curved beaches of sun-kissed pebbles and round, smooth, stones.

Fishing villages sit at sea level with their colourful boats bobbing in horse-shoe harbours and the green hills are speckled with clusters of red-roofed houses and their village church bell-towers.

Along the coast, radiating out from the cosmopolitan capital of Corfu, simply known as Corfu Town, smart hotels offer luxury and jet-set decadence.

Corfu is well suited to a variety of tastes and offers a plethora of pre-requisites for a great holiday - a holiday to Corfu is ideal for families with young children, families with teen-age children, couples and groups of friends.

Corfu can attract so many different groups of people because, first and foremost, it is thriving area both culturally and commercially, testimony to this variety of shops, restaurants, small businesses, and global brands that are abundant, not only in Corfu Town but all over the island. Culturally, Corfu has much to offer; the Ionian University was one of the first modern universities in Greece and is known as a centre of excellence in history and archaeology as well as music. There are theatres and many acting troupes producing modern and ancient Greek plays and the people of Corfu, regardless of age and background, are keen theatre goes. Thus Corfu is not just a holiday resort but a vibrant community.
