Welcome to Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa

Paleocastritsa is a place of spectacular beauty.

The land rises out of the Adriatic in a splendid array of verdant hillsides covered in olive groves and forest.

There are three main bays in Paleocastritsa with a fourth between the main resort and the Monastery of Theotokos.

The streets of Paleocastritsa are narrow and winding and simply add to the overall charm of the area.

Boat hire is easily available for holiday-makers to explore some of the nearby coves and a number of boat trips also take visitors to those only accessible from the sea.

Paleocastritsa is also the site of the famous Monastery of Theotokos – a beautiful white-washed group of buildings in well-cared-for gardens overlooking the Adriatic. The bell tower of the monastery is one of the most photographed locations on the island of Corfu.

Sightseeing

There is plenty to see in and around Paleokastritsa. Here is just a small selection:

Angelokastro is just under 10 kilometres away. The winding country road takes holiday-makers through welcoming rural villages; some selling local honey from small family run bee hives, and olive oil. Angelokastro is a small Angevine fortification 1, 000 ft (305 m)above sea-level, overlooking the Adriatic with sweeping views encompassing the bays of Paleokastritsa. Building of the fort began round about 1272 and this, along with the forts of Gardiki and Kassiopi formed the major part of Corfu’s defences. It is an interesting place with a tiny chapel below ground. Stone graves are clearly visible within the fortification grounds.

Corfu Golf Club is 15 kilometres from Paleokastritsa. It is a beautiful course with views sea-wards and the gentle hills inland – a gem of Corfu.

Glyfada sandy beach is about 21 kilometres away and easily accessible from Paleocastritsa by hire-car.
